Readworks is a website that provides fiction and nonfiction articles written for various reading levels. In reading class, we will be using articles from this website to give us another resource for understanding the world around us. Sometimes we will be reading specifically assigned articles and sometimes we will can choose our own independent articles to read. For each article, students will answer at least five multiple choice and short response questions. Students may use this site at home to help improve their reading comprehension.

CommonLit is a site full of short stories, poems, excerpts from nonfiction texts, and full of book pairing just to name some of its content. This is similar to Readworks; but it also provides even more resources for students to become better readers through a vast variety of texts and content. Sometimes we, as a class, will have assignments from CommonLit in class as well as for reading at home. This will give students more exposure outside of our class novels.

Newsela is a website that provides up-to-date nonfiction news articles for students and it is available at many different reading levels. Students can also practice answering comprehension questions after they finish reading the article.

IXL is a math site that allows students to practice specific math and language arts skills regardless of their level.  Students earn points and get feedback as they work through each skill.  In math and reading class, students will occasionally be asked to practice specified skills as they are related to the week's lessons.  Each student can access this site through their individual account.

Google Classroom is a place in which students can turn in assignments whether they did it in class or at home.  Students can see their grades and comments on assignments when it is returned.  Each student can access this site through their individual CPS account.

On Epic, students have access to thousands of books! It is a digital library for kids up to 12 years old. Students can read at their own pace, use the audio feature to listen to a book, watch videos, and so much more! Students can use this for free in schools but must purchase a monthly subscription for home usage after a 30-day trial. There may be a discounted rate as the school year progress.
